The Gingerbread Man

In Whole GRoup REading we are reading different versions of The Gingerbread Man. Today we did some fun writing about the story. If you were the Gingerbread Man, what would you have done to cross the river?

Black Bears

We are reading informational text in whole group reading. This week we are reading about forest animals. Today we learned a little about Black Bears. Write what you know about Black Bears.

Measuring Feet

We measured our feet. We used snap cubes. We counted how many snap cubes it took to go from one end of our foot the the other end. We traced our feet and cut them out. Who has the largest foot in your family.

Patterns

In math we are making patterns. You can make patterns out of colors, shapes and size. A pattern has to repeat. We made a kid pattern can you read our pattern?

Pets

The catagory this week is pets. In writing today we wrote about what kind of pet we have. Ask your kindergartener about what they wrote. We sorted pictures of animals that fit into the pet catagory.

A Fun Monday

Today we cooked applesauce then we ate the applesauce. In Math we practiced the game Grab and count. We put our counters in a line. We watched a show about science. The science show did some cool things. We learned the memory word like.

Orchard Trip

We went to Catoctin Mountain Orchard today for a field trip. I picked a red apple and a crispy apple. We had fun. We played at a playground. I was playing with my friend in the maze and getting chased. I played with my 2 friends everywhare an the playground. We learned bees won't bother you if you don't swat at them. Bees also pollinate the flowers. Apples get squished into apple cider.

Back to School Day

Today we tasted apples the Granny Smith apple was sour. We played outside for recess. We read an informational book about apples. We had lunch in the cafeteria. We went to Art and met Ms. Kuhn. During Small Groups we worked in a center.

My Disney Vacation

Hi everyone I hope you are having a great Summer. My family and I had a great trip to Disney World last week. We visited all 4 of the parks and rode a lot of rides. Our favorite ride was a roller coaster at Disney Studio called Rockin Roller Coaster we screamed our head's off! My kid's Paul and Colleen loved swimming in the hotel pool everyday, it had two water slides. Because we were there on the Fourth of July we got to see some great fireworks above Cinderella's castle. What has everyone else been doing? I would love to hear about your Summer.

Keep Blogging!

Even though it is Summer and we will not see each other until First Grade let's stay in touch! Write about what you are doing during the Summer. It can be a big family trip or a trip to the pool. I will visit the blog also to keep you up to date on my Summer.

Last Day of School

Today is our last day of Kindergarten! Write about a favorite memory or what you liked best about Kindergarten.

A Blue Day

Almost everyone was on blue today. We had art we drew more insects. We had outside recess it was fun. It was muddy outside. We are going to have extra recess. We worked on our pop-up book. Today we added butterfly information. We learned about butterflies from a book. We talked about fractions in math by matching smaller shapes to a whole square shape. We watched our new ant farm. They have begun one tunnel so far.

Rainy Tuesday

Today we learned about bees. We read an informational book about bees and made a page about them in our pop up book. For science we watched a reading rainbow show about how honeybees make honey and their lifecycle. For math we reviewed symmetry. We made symetrical flowers and butterflies. Because of the rain we had indoor recess. In art we drew insects and had to make them look real.

A Fun Day!

We read about ants. We have an ant habitat, now we need ants! We brought an old bird bath to he courtyard so the turtle can have water. We are going to work on a shelter for the turtle. In math we counted how many chairs are in our room. We were suprised to learn that we have 40 chairs!

Turtle Tuesday

We saw the box turtle that lives in the courtyard. Then we went to the computer lab and wrote about the turtle. We started our insect pop-up book. We read about animals on a cool new website called pebblego.com. I had fun!

A Warm Monday

We read a book about insect information. We sang a song about insect body parts. We wrote about our weekend news. We started a list of insects for the catagory. We had P.E. We played scooter hockey. Mr. Barnhart reminded us field day is June 4th. How was your weekend?

A Sticky Friday

When we were outside we got so sweaty we felt sticky. We made a flip book about a rainbow garden. Today felt like a wacky day because we came in late and did things out of order. In music we made a band. We had lunch after writers' workshop. In math we learned about time and clocks. We played a clock game. We found a new website about animal information.

Goodbye to the Chicks

The chicks are a week old now. Their wings are getting strong and they are getting tail feathers. We see them jump at the side of the wash tub. This means it is time for them to go home with Ms. Jones and live on her farm. We had a lot of fun watching the chicks grow. We will really, really miss them.

Monday Work

In the afternoon it started raining. Today we saw that the chicks are growing pin feathers on their wings. We made a graph. We read The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle and wrote about the story. We all helped share the pen and write our own story called Kindergarten's Enormous Pumpkin. We had outdoor recess and in P.E. we did the Cha-Cha Slide and played a hockey game.

A Cool Friday

We have a new friend in our class. Last night 7 more eggs hatched. Now we have 8 chicks. We played outside in the beautiful sun. We went to library and got new books. We had a good lunch.

A Chick Hatched

Our first egg hatched last night! So when we came to school this morning we had a BIG surprise! 6 more eggs have a pip on them so maybe tomorrow we will be surprise with more chicks.

A Fun Wednesday

One of our froglet came out and sat on a rock out of the water! He stayed there for a long time so we got a good look at him. He jumped in to the water. We wrote a number story in math about our fish picture. We watched the second graders do their gym show.

A Busy Day at School

We made a subtraction stories with goldfish crackers, then we got to eat them! We went to the computer lab and everyone wrote on the blog. We noticed one of our tadpoles is a froglet...his tail is soooooooo small! The froglet came out and sat on a rock. In small groups we re-read our books and put them in our book baggies. We read a book about filling buckets.

Flower Life Cycle

Last week we learned about how a flower grows. Now this week our vocabulary catagory is flowers. Read what we learned about flowers.

Cold Rainy Monday

We used an egg shell to plant grass seed. We put a face on the shell so when the grass grows it will look like green hair. It was raining hard today so we had indoor recess. We read The Carrot Seed and we sequenced the story in writing workshop. We now have 4 tadpoles with front legs. The tadpoles are changing. Their tails are getting shorter, their eyes are bulging, and their mouths are looking like a frogs mouth.

A Special Visit

This morning two girls who wrote a book about raising a cow visited us and shared their book. We got goody bags to take home and our classroom got a book to keep. We got to have outside recess which was fun because there was no rain. We learned more about how seeds grow into flowers. Remember Friday is our library day so bring your book.

We Have Front Legs

One of our tadpoles got front legs today!!!!!!!!

A Cool Wednesday

We planted seeds in our courtyard garden. We planted flowers, peas, radishes, lettuce, sunflowers, and gourds. We had fun outside.

A Hot Tuesday

We went into our schools courtyard and we began to work on our garden. Today we had to pull up a lot of weeds so we can plant seeds on Wednesday. We looked inside of a fava bean seed. We saw three parts; a little plant, a seed coat, and food storage. We played outside on this hot day.

Spring

Monday morning during Writing Workshop the students will work in the computer lab and learn how to post a comment to our blog. Here is what we are writing about, have fun reading.

A Fun Day at School

Recess was warm but breezy we had a great time outside. We practiced sorting shapes dring math. We visited the school courtyard to see the tulips we planted last Fall. We had time to play the math night games. Some Second Graders came to our class to read us books they wrote during writing workshop. In Library we voted for our favorite Black-eye Susan Book. Have a grea weekend we'll blog again on Monday.

Family Math Game Night

Thank You everyone for coming! We had a great time playing some of our games from math workshop.

Thursday at School

We learned some more about frogs. We learned from a book that frogs and toads can be same and different. We got our class picture taken outside BRRRRRR! We read another book about frogs. In math we began to learn how to subtract. To subtract you start with a whole group then take part away to find what part you have left. In art we are working on a line project.

Firefighters Visit our School

All of the kids got to dress up like firemen. We practiced stop,drop, and roll. We crawled under the smoke. And saw a firefighter all dressed up ready to save us. We got to feel his jacket. Mrs. Slotwinski tried on the fireman's clothes and raced a real firefighter by seeing who could get dressed the fastest. The firemen gave us homework. If you have a fire at home where does your family meet? It has to be outside away from the house.

Today in school

Today we read about our tadpoles lifecyle. We candled some of the eggs to see the embryo inside. We read a book about how our chicks will hatch and grow. Our tadpoles are growing legs.
